Certification Procedures

Basic Navigation Home Study Training

This is a prerequisite for attending the Beginners Training. Please review the Basic Navigation manual a minimum of three times cover-to-cover prior to registering for your Beginners Training. You will need to have the Clasp32 program loaded on your laptop prior to beginning this prerequisite. You will not be allowed to attend any training courses without having completed this prerequisite. There are no exceptions. If you require any assistance with the Basic Navigation Manual, please contact Practitioner Support.

Beginners Training (Scholarship)

This is a six day program at the Academy to provide a working knowledge of the Clasp32 software program. With the completion of this course, each student is given the opportunity to become a Certified Biofeedback Technician (CBT), which is accredited through the Natural Therapies Certification Board (NTCB) (see Step 4 for details). The benefit of becoming a Certified Biofeedback Specialist (CBS) after obtaining a CBT is that you can be an independent practitioner as a CBS, while a CBT must remain under supervision. We highly recommend that you return back to the Intermediate and Advanced class after three months in order to take your NTCB Certified Biofeedback Specialist exam, which will be one of the requirements to upgrading to the Specialist status.

Internship (500 Hours of Supervision Required)

For candidates to receive certification as a Certified Biofeedback Specialist (CBS) with the NTCB you must complete a 500 hour internship. Internship hours need to be overseen by a Qualified Biofeedback Supervisor. Notify the NTCB by sending your documentation to: ntcb.info@gmail.com when completed. Be sure to keep all client names confidential and instead assign numbers to the client names. If you are a licensed Healthcare Professional you may be exempt. Please check with the NTCB for information on possible exemption. Your internship must be completed under the supervision of any of the following:

- Certified Instructor
- Certified Supervisor
- Certified Biofeedback Specialist approved by NTCB
- BCIA certified professional approved by NTCB
- Non-certified person approved by NTCB

You will be consulting with your supervisor anytime you have any questions or concerns. Your supervisor will be instrumental in your path of gaining experience and knowledge and to assist you with biofeedback training programs and techniques. The information you need to document for your NTCB internship records are:

- Date
- A client code name, or the client number from your demographics screen (Your client's name is confidential).
- A short statement of what you did (Quantum Biofeedback programs for stress reduction, pain management, or muscle re-education.)
- The number of hours or minutes you trained your client and the name of your supervisor.

If you are working with a group of supervisors, you may list the name of that group. You may record minutes or hours as a decimal (75 min or 1.25 hours) or as a fraction (1 1/4 hours). Notify the NTCB when this step is complete.

NTCB Technician Application

Upon completion of the Beginners Training, each student is given the opportunity to become a Certified Biofeedback Technician (CBT), which is accredited through the Natural Therapies Certification Board (NTCB). The annual fee for the CBT certification is $65 and is made payable to the NTCB. This certification is optional. The CBT will allow you to apply for liability insurance (see Step 5 for details). If you do not apply for the CBT during the Beginners Course but instead apply at a later date, you must attach your Basic Skills certificate to the application to be submitted.
